Saudi Arabia relinquished a precious lead against Australia to lose 4-2 in a decisive 2014 World Cup qualifier after conceding three goals in four minutes.

The defeat, coupled with Oman’s 2-0 win over Thailand, left the Saudis in third place in Group D to wave goodbye to the qualifiers third round.

After taking the lead twice through Salem Al-Dossari and Nasser Al-Shamrani, Saudi Arabia had to pay for a four-minute downfall that allowed the Socceroos to claim the win.

Harry Kewell, Alex Brosque (second goal) and Brett Emerton turned the game upside down to shatter Franck Rijkard side’s hopes of making the Brazil finals.
