Herve Renard has succeeded Portuguese Manuel Jose as the coach of Angola, the country's football federation announced on Thursday.

The Frenchman has penned a two-year deal with Angola after resigning from his post as Zambia coach.

He replaced former Ahli boss Jose, who did not renew his contract after hosts Angola were eliminated in the African Cup of Nations quarter finals at the hands of eventual runners-up Ghana in January.

Renard helped Zambia hold seven-time African champions Egypt to a 1-1 draw in Cairo in March 2009 during a decent World Cup qualifying campaign for the Chipolopolo.

He also guided them to the Nations Cup quarter finals but they missed out on a place in the semis after a defeat by Nigeria.
